The vehicle lifecycle
Recording the purchase
Record who you bought the vehicle from, the amount, and the dates.
The purchase records the deal you made to acquire the vehicle: the seller, the amount, and when it's due. This must be done before any other financial step.
How to record a purchase
- Open the vehicle's Detail page and go to the Purchase section.
- Choose the seller (a party of type Purchase From). If the seller isn't listed, you can add them on the spot — see Parties.
- Enter the purchase amount.
- Set the purchase date and, if the payment is on credit, the purchase due date.
- Tap Save.

Important rules
Purchase locks after payment
You can edit purchase details freely until you record the purchase payment in the ledger. After the first purchase payment is entered, the purchase details are locked and cannot be changed. Make sure the amount and seller are correct before you record any payment.
- If a vehicle was added purely as a commission deal (you earn a commission rather than buying outright), you cannot add purchase details to it.
- Recording the purchase here does not yet record that you paid the seller. Paying the seller is a separate ledger entry — see Ledger & settlement.
What's next
- Bringing in a co-investor? Add a vehicle partner.
- Otherwise, record the purchase payment and any expenses in the ledger.
